Environmental
Drilling
D.J. Scheffler, Inc. provides drilling services to the environmental professional.
Our large inventory of various types of drill rigs and equipment allows us to
participate in a variety of environmental projects, including: |
 |
- Secant Pile Cut-Off
Walls – A non-permeable
subsurface wall created by a series of interlocking
concrete filled drilled shafts. This process
has many environmental applications including
isolating a contaminated area below ground, controlling groundwater and minimizing
any environmental impact caused by deep excavations where subsidence is anticipated.
- Ground Freezing – A
process used by geotechnical engineers whereby
the subsurface is frozen using specialized
drilling techniques to achieve either a more
stable subsurface and/or to create a frozen
barrier to control groundwater infiltration.
- Soil Sampling – Refers
to a wide variety of techniques generally used
to analyze specific characteristics of subsurface
materials.
- Pieziometer
Installation – A
device installed in a drilled shaft that
is used to accurately measure fluctuations
in groundwater levels.
- Pressure Grouting – A
process whereby grout is injected at various
pressures via a drilled shaft into the subsurface.
Reasons for grouting vary considerably and
have numerous applications in the environmental
engineering field.
- Bentonite Slurry
Walls – Slurry walls are used to contain contaminated ground water, divert contaminated
ground water from the drinking water intake, divert uncontaminated ground water
flow and/or provide a barrier for the ground water treatment system.
- Methane Well
Installations – A
well drilled typically at a landfill site
intended to alleviate the buildup of methane
gas.

D.J.
Scheffler works closely with geologists,
geotechnical engineers and governmental environmental
agencies in environmentally sensitive areas
and maintains a staff of qualified personnel
with 40 hour HAZWOPER training, 8 hour HAZWOPER
supervisor training and hazardous materials technician training. We have experience
working in fuel refineries, blue-line stream channels, and other eco-sensitive
environments. D.J. Scheffler will continue to explore new technologies and applications
related to the environmental profession so we can continue to provide exceptional
service to this growing industry.
